Details of the Fraud

The HKMA has emphasized that legitimate banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to the banks’ websites to perform transactions. Additionally, banks will not request sensitive personal information, such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords, through phone calls, emails, or SMS messages containing embedded links.

Public Advisory

Members of the public who have provided personal information or conducted financial transactions in response to the fraudulent website are advised to contact Ant Bank immediately using the contact details provided in the press release. Furthermore, they should report the incident to the Police by calling the Crime Wing Information Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012.

Continued Vigilance

The HKMA continues to remind the public to remain vigilant against potential scams and to verify the authenticity of communications purporting to be from financial institutions. This advisory is part of HKMA’s ongoing efforts to protect consumers from financial fraud and cyber threats.
