Algorand (ALGO)’s August 2026 report reveals a 30% jump in active wallets and strong asset creation, despite dips in stablecoin market cap and ALGO-denominated TVL.
Algorand (ALGO) saw a sharp rise in network activity during August 2026, with monthly active wallets (MAW) climbing 30% month-over-month to 677,000, according to the latest Algo Insights Report. This marks one of the most significant increases in user participation for the blockchain this year.
However, other metrics painted a more complex picture. While USD-denominated total value locked (TVL) grew 4.7% to $67 million, ALGO-denominated TVL dropped 1.7% to 790 million ALGO. The stablecoin market cap also contracted slightly, falling 2.3% to $43 million.
Quantum Resilience and Agentic Commerce Gain Traction
August also marked the rollout of two major initiatives on Algorand: quantum-resilient accounts and transactions, and the agentic commerce framework. Quantum-resilient features, live since August 20 as part of the v5.0.0 protocol upgrade, saw early adoption with 1,800 new accounts and 1.24 million transactions in just 19 days. This suggests a high level of engagement from initial users, likely drawn by the promise of enhanced security against quantum computing threats.
Agentic commerce, launched in late July, recorded $174,000 in settled payments across 615,000 transfers during its first full month. The average transaction size of $0.28 aligns with expectations for frequent, low-value payments in agent-driven ecosystems. Cumulative agentic transfers reached 654,000 by month-end, representing 94% of total volume since launch.
Builder Activity and Asset Creation Accelerate
Builder activity on Algorand showed mixed results. While contract deployments remained steady at 603,000 (-0.6% MoM), new asset creation jumped 40.3%, with 305,000 assets minted in August. This highlights growing developer interest in leveraging Algorand’s infrastructure for novel applications.
Tokenomics and Staking Rewards
The circulating supply of ALGO increased by 0.76% in August to 9.04 billion tokens, now representing 90.4% of the total maximum supply. Staking rewards distributed for the month totaled 6.74 million ALGO, maintaining a steady distribution trend seen earlier in 2026. Notably, 80.6% of the network’s 2.02 billion staked ALGO is held by the community, underpinning decentralization efforts.
Market Context
As of September 10, ALGO is trading at $0.09609, down 3.78% over the past 24 hours. Despite the ecosystem’s positive momentum, macroeconomic factors and broader crypto market trends appear to weigh on the token’s short-term performance. ALGO’s liquidity metrics, including its stablecoin market cap decline, also reflect ongoing challenges in attracting liquidity to the network.
Looking Ahead
Algorand enters September with new leadership as William Herkelrath assumes the role of CEO. Key upcoming events include a Reddit AMA with Herkelrath on September 23 and team participation in conferences like API World and NFT NYC. Additionally, the continued rollout of post-quantum features and agentic commerce could further shape Algorand’s 2026 trajectory.
Traders and developers should monitor adoption rates for quantum-resilient transactions and the growth of agentic commerce, which could provide long-term catalysts for the ALGO ecosystem. For now, the blockchain’s rising engagement metrics and evolving use cases are reasons for cautious optimism.
