  • Sui Network launched Mysticeti v2 to streamline its DAG-based consensus system and reduce transaction latency.
  • The upgrade introduces the Transaction Driver, which improves submission efficiency and lowers bandwidth use.

Sui Network has rolled out Mysticeti v2, a major upgrade to Sui’s DAG-based consensus engine, which offers faster confirmation times and more efficient validation across the Sui blockchain infrastructure.

The update, which directly incorporates transaction validation into the consensus process, removes unnecessary steps that occur before a transaction is agreed on, and makes the global network more responsive.

Consensus Integration Cuts Latency and Boosts Throughput

Mysticeti v2 is a core architectural improvement to Sui’s consensus protocol v1, launched in July 2024. The DAG-based model already separates transaction dissemination from ordering to boost throughput and enhance censorship resistance.

With the latest version, Sui has integrated pre-consensus validation into its core protocol to ensure that transactions are finalized simultaneously with block commits.

A transaction now reaches finality if it collects a quorum of validator certificates, even while block-level commits are still occurring, following the DAG framework already established. Invalid or rejected transactions are automatically discarded, reducing congestion, and resources are allocated for valid processing.

The upgrade also introduces a more efficient voting mechanism. Validators only provide explicit votes for rejected transactions, but accept votes are determined by existing block links. This design reduces message overhead and improves the consistency of performance across nodes.

Furthermore, validators can continue to certify transactions in multiple rounds to compensate for weaker network links without losing overall throughput.

Mysticeti v2 retains the anchor commit structure of its predecessor, but optimizes transaction-level decision-making. Each transaction now integrates seamlessly with DAG commit logic, ensuring efficiency even during periods of high traffic. Benchmark tests reveal latency reductions of up to 35% on Asia-based nodes, along with significant improvements in Europe and North America.

Transaction Driver Revolutionizes Submission Process

The new core of the upgrade, the new Transaction Driver, replaces the older Quorum Driver and makes transaction handling much easier. Instead of sending to multiple validators, it sends transactions to a single validator, reducing network bandwidth and CPU load. Signing batches of transactions during block signing by validators enhances scalability and reduces resource costs.

The driver dynamically selects validators according to the latency performance and automatically reroutes to others in the case of delays or outages. It has a one-third quorum of confirmation, and spamming is blocked with submission limits.

Even early statistics released by Mysten Labs have shown that the Transaction Driver has already reduced average latency by 35% in Asia and 25% in Europe, a significant indicator of efficiency and responsiveness.

Further planned updates will reduce the commit cycle of 4 rounds to 3, and add direct consensus block streaming to full nodes. Such changes should resolve the problem of deadlock caused by rare objects and ensure the continuity of transactions.

Sui Ecosystem Growth

Sui’s ongoing technical upgrades have coincided with robust ecosystem expansion. Network data for Q4 2024 recorded a 153% quarter-over-quarter rise in daily transactions, reaching 8.4 million per day.

Activity peaked at 58.4 million daily transactions in early October 2024, underscoring strong user and developer engagement. Daily active addresses climbed to 875,000, supported by the growing DeFi sector and the launch of native USDC integration.
