  • Opera’s built-in crypto wallets will give millions of its users’ easy access to Web 3.0.
  • The blockchain integration will allow Opera users access to several thousand DApps on Polygon and Solana networks.

Earlier today, March 30, the popular web browser Opera said that it has added support for eight different blockchains. This includes some of the very popular names such as Bitcoin, Polygon, Solana, Celo, StarEx, Ronin, Nervos, and IXO. Opera is the company with the world’s first Web 3.0 browser with a built-in crypto wallet.

With the recent development, Opera notes that its millions of active users can benefit from DApps and services offered by these eight blockchains. Opera’s Web 3.0 browser, dubbed the Crypto Browser Project, runs on Android as well as desktop PCs. This is a standalone browser coming with built-in DApp support and a non-custodial crypto wallet.

Apart from that, it also includes Crypto Corner for all things crypto. This is crypto news, prices, gas fees, educational content, upcoming airdrops, market sentiment, etc. Opera notes that today’s launch will extend its users’ access to PoS blockchains, specifically the Ethereum Layer-2 ecosystems: Polygon and StarkEx. Thus, users will largely benefit from faster transactions and lower gas fees. Furthermore, they can also get access to Layer 2 DeFi via StarkWare-powered DiversiFi.

Opera notes that the integration of these multiple blockchains and other Layer 2s will help it seamlessly onboard millions of users to Web 3.0. Jorgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera said:

Ever since we started in the Web3 space in 2018, we’ve been sealing partnerships with the most popular and cutting edge blockchains and web3 domain name providers in order to accelerate crypto’s evolution from proof of concept towards mass adoption.

Ultimately, Web3 is on its way to becoming a mainstream web technology and users won’t need to know they’re interacting with it. They need to get a superior user experience and a true benefit.

Integration With Polygon and Solana

Polygon has emerged as a very powerful Layer-2 scalability solution for Ethereum. The Polygon network caters to faster transactions with very low transaction costs. Furthermore, Polygon is a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain which makes it more environmentally friendly than the existing Ethereum 1.0 blockchain.

Polygon also hosts some of the most popular decentralized applications (DApps) from Metaverse platforms to other NFT worlds. Opera’s support for Polygon will expose its users to Ethereum’s wider DeFi ecosystem.

On the other hand, Solana is also gaining strong traction as a Layer 1 competitor for the Ethereum blockchain. Solana’s very high scalability, low transaction fees, and energy-efficient consensus model have made it a formidable player in the blockchain space. With this integration, Solana users will be able to access all DApps on the Solana blockchain. Jorgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera, said:

The average web user may still be hesitant to dabble with Web3, but with the integration of Solana, Polygon, and others in our mobile browser, they can now access these technologies from the safety and familiarity of the browser that provides them with a dedicated Web3 experience.
