The United States and United Kingdom are forming a first-of-its-kind alliance aimed at dismantling global scam centers tied to crypto fraud.
The Department of Justice says US and UK authorities are joining forces to crack down on international scam centers accused of defrauding Americans through cryptocurrency and cyber-enabled investment schemes.
The US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, the Crown Prosecution Service of England and Wales, and the UK’s National Crime Agency announced a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Scam Center Strike Force and its British counterparts
Officials described the agreement as the first international cooperation framework specifically focused on disrupting scam centers involved in cryptocurrency fraud, cyber-enabled investment fraud and other schemes that collectively cost Americans an estimated $10 billion each year. Under the agreement, US and UK authorities will conduct parallel investigations into shared targets, exchange intelligence on organized crime groups and coordinate on where individual cases should be prosecuted. The agencies will also prioritize investigations involving the threat to maximize the impact of their joint efforts.
Says US Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro,
“The United Kingdom is one of our oldest allies and partners. We’ve stood side by side to bring down global threats in multiple wars, and today we commit to stand together in the war on transnational organized crime. Together we will disable the Chinese TOC networks that are operating these scam compounds and depriving our citizens of their hard-earned funds, all while using human-trafficked labor to increase their profit. Standing together, we are invincible.”
The Scam Center Strike Force was launched by US Attorney Pirro in November 2025 in response to the growing presence of Chinese organized crime groups operating scam centers, primarily across Southeast Asia.
The task force focuses on cryptocurrency investment scams, cyber-enabled fraud, human trafficking and money laundering operations that have collectively caused billions of dollars in losses to American victims.
