i2 Group partners with Chainalysis to integrate cryptocurrency insights into its intelligence platform, enhancing the ability to track illicit activities using blockchain data.
i2 Group, a prominent provider of intelligence analysis software, has announced a strategic partnership with Chainalysis, a leading blockchain data platform. This collaboration aims to bolster i2’s link analysis platform, Analyst’s Notebook, by incorporating Chainalysis’ cryptocurrency insights to better identify, predict, and counteract criminal, terrorist, and fraudulent activities. The integration is now accessible for i2 Group and Chainalysis customers within the public sector, facilitating a seamless incorporation of blockchain data into their investigative processes.
Addressing the Cryptocurrency Blind Spot
Before this partnership, users of i2 Group’s Analyst’s Notebook primarily relied on off-chain data from third-party sources, such as geospatial data. However, the increasing prevalence of cryptocurrency in various forms of crime, including national security threats, fraud, and organized crime, highlighted the need for more comprehensive data. The integration of Chainalysis data through a formal connector allows analysts to merge various datasets with on-chain cryptocurrency data, providing enhanced insights into illicit activities and addressing a critical blind spot in financial investigations.
Kevin O’Brien, President of Chainalysis Government Solutions, emphasized the growing need for law enforcement and intelligence agencies to understand illicit flows on blockchains as cryptocurrency becomes more integral to the global financial system. He stated, “The combination of Chainalysis’ on-chain data with i2’s link analysis platform marks a significant advancement in our mission to arm public sector agencies with the comprehensive blockchain insights they need to uncover complex illicit networks.”

Chainalysis customers can now purchase the Investigations API and integrate it directly into i2 Analyst’s Notebook by inputting their API key. This integration ensures that users can securely and efficiently access combined data sets, enhancing their investigative capabilities.
