The Hong Kong Monetary Authority warns the public about fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens posing as China CITIC Bank International Limited.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a warning to the public concerning a series of fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens impersonating China CITIC Bank International Limited. The alert comes after reports of these deceptive platforms were brought to the attention of the HKMA, according to a press release from the authority.

Fraudulent Activity Details

The HKMA has highlighted that these fraudulent entities are attempting to lure users into providing sensitive personal and financial information. The authority emphasizes that legitimate banks, including China CITIC Bank, do not send emails or SMS with embedded hyperlinks directing users to their websites to conduct transactions. They also do not request sensitive information, such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords, via phone, email, or SMS.

Public Advisory

Members of the public who may have inadvertently shared their personal information or conducted transactions through these fraudulent websites are urged to contact China CITIC Bank immediately using the official contact information provided in the HKMA’s release. Furthermore, individuals are advised to report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre at 2860 5012.

Preventive Measures

The HKMA continues to remind consumers to remain vigilant against such scams. It is crucial to verify the authenticity of any communication purportedly from banks and to avoid clicking on suspicious links. The authority provides resources and information on its website to help consumers recognize and avoid fraudsters.

For more detailed information, the official press release can be accessed on the HKMA website.
