Eigen Labs introduces EigenCloud, a platform enhancing blockchain’s trust and verifiability for app developers, supported by a $70M investment from a16z crypto.
Eigen Labs has unveiled EigenCloud, a groundbreaking platform aimed at bridging the gap between blockchain capabilities and application development. This new offering promises to bring trust and verifiability to any application, whether on-chain or off-chain, according to EigenLayer. The platform is built on EigenLayer and powered by the EIGEN token.
Breaking New Ground in Blockchain Development
EigenCloud integrates third-party Autonomous Verifiable Services (AVSs) and developer primitives, including EigenDA for data management, EigenVerify for dispute resolution, and EigenCompute for execution. This integration facilitates the development of verifiable and trustless Web2 applications and services across various domains, such as AI, prediction markets, and social media.
The platform aims to solve the programmability limitations of blockchains, which have hindered the mass adoption of crypto applications. By enabling complex tasks to be executed off-chain while managing payments and trust on the blockchain, EigenCloud opens new possibilities for developers.
Investment and Support from a16z Crypto
In a significant boost to EigenCloud’s development, a16z crypto, which previously led Eigen Labs’ $100 million Series B funding round, has purchased $70 million in EIGEN tokens. This investment is expected to accelerate the commercialization of EigenCloud’s services, facilitating the growth of a verifiable economy.
Sreeram Kannan, CEO of Eigen Labs, emphasized EigenCloud’s potential to expand crypto’s programmability, enabling the creation of ambitious products such as on-chain insurance and verifiable AI. Joe Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum and CEO of Consensys, lauded the platform as a step toward a more trustworthy digital infrastructure.
Alpha Rollout and Future Plans
Currently, Eigen Labs is rolling out the alpha version of EigenCloud, featuring enhancements to EigenDA and a preview of EigenVerify. The roadmap includes the introduction of new developer tools and dispute modes, with plans to gradually open access to these features over the coming months.
EigenCloud has already garnered attention within the developer community, with over 200 AVSs in development and significant funding secured to support innovative projects. The platform’s focus on verifiability is expected to play a crucial role in the development of fully trusted software, particularly in areas like AI verification.
Access to EigenCloud services is currently being rolled out to select developers, with broader availability expected later this year. This initiative marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of blockchain technology, potentially setting the stage for the next era of application innovation.
