Coinbase has leaped forward by transforming its traditional wallet into something much more ambitious, the Base App. An all-in-one platform designed to bring the entire on-chain world into one seamless experience.
Unveiled during their “A New Day One” livestream in Los Angeles, this is a fresh coat of paint, a major evolution in how people will use crypto on their phones.
With Base, Coinbase is stepping into the arena of super apps, joining the likes of Meta, X, Grab, WeChat, and Alipay, platforms that bundle social, finance, and utility services into one streamlined hub.
Head of product for the Base app, John Granata, explained,
We’re early, it’s still in beta. But I’m excited to show you what we’ve built so far. We designed Base around 4 core experiences: a social network, a place to discover and use apps, secure and powerful encrypted chat, and of course, a world-class wallet with the best trading and payment tools that millions use today.
The launch wasn’t short on star power either; Gary Vaynerchuk, the CEO of VaynerMedia, and filmmaker Roman Coppola made appearances.
What Can you do with Base App?
The Base App is designed to be your all-in-one portal into the on-chain world, letting you chat, trade, post, and earn without ever needing to switch between apps. Whether you’re sending crypto to a friend, swapping tokens, sharing content, or joining conversations, it all happens in one smooth, social experience.
Built with creators in mind, the app turns every post, whether it’s text, a photo, or a video, into a monetizable on-chain asset, making it easy to earn from your content. Thanks to integrations with social protocols like Farcaster and Zora, users can build followings and collect posts as digital collectibles.
Payments are just as seamless. Base Pay enables instant, low-fee USDC transactions, which are already live with Shopify and are expanding to more merchants with NFC support.
Plus, with encrypted messaging via XMTP, you can even interact with AI agents, all in one place. And for discovery? The feed is packed with mini-apps, from games and prediction markets to AI tools, no downloads required. It’s everything crypto was supposed to be, finally brought together in one simple, social app.
Base is also simplifying one of crypto’s biggest pain points: on-chain identity. Instead of juggling complex private keys, users now have a unified Base Account that makes navigating the app smoother and more intuitive, whether they’re brand new or seasoned users.
