American celebrity Reese Witherspoon has taken to Twitter to share her views on cryptocurrency, in particular NFTs, as she encourages women to have greater involvement in the space.
Witherspoon’s first tweeted about cryptocurrencies in December last year, responding to a tweet by entrepreneur Bobby Hundreds, who tweeted:
“Reminder that twice as many men invest in crypto than women, and women only make up 16% of the NFT market. Thanks @ReeseW and other women leaders in the space who are committed to changing that.”
Witherspoon replied:
“Crypto is here to stay. I’m committed to supporting creators who have pioneered the NFT space, and encouraging more women to be a part of the conversation”
On Tuesday the Hollywood star shared a post on Twitter, once again sharing her views on the future of cryptocurrency and the metaverse:
“In the (near) future, every person will have a parallel digital identity. Avatars, crypto wallets, digital goods will be the norm.”
Many have been skeptical of Witherspoon’s recent crypto posts, with several users questioning whether she was directly advertising crypto in her posts. One user noted:
“It’s so much more complex than most realize. Done right it solves many problems, gives people a self-sovereign identity that cannot be taken away, but at the same time requires personal responsibility and self-reliance. Most are not ready for that”
While mainstream media has responded to Witherspoon’s tweets critically, her comments highlight the need for the recognition and onboarding of women leaders in the space.
