Claude Fable 5.1 Launches in Harvey with Legal Focus

Anthropic has rolled out Claude Fable 5.1, its latest AI model, on the Harvey platform as of September 1, 2026. Designed to enhance productivity for legal professionals, the model brings notable improvements in handling complex, document-heavy tasks, including litigation, dispute resolution, and cybersecurity analysis. Harvey customers can opt-in to access the model starting this week.

Fable 5.1 builds on its predecessor, Fable 5, with enhanced reasoning capabilities and efficiency. According to early testing, the model excels in delivering quality results even at lower reasoning levels, using roughly half the tokens compared to higher settings. This balance of quality and efficiency could be particularly valuable for legal teams managing high-volume tasks, such as agreement reviews or due diligence processes.

Notably, the model also supports tasks in capital markets and data privacy, broadening its use case beyond legal applications. These advancements align with Anthropic’s broader push to make AI models more versatile and cost-effective, as Fable 5.1 reportedly reduces token usage compared to earlier iterations, lowering operational expenses.

Data Handling and Safeguards

While Fable 5.1 offers significant capabilities, it comes with caveats on data processing. Harvey clarified that the model processes all data in the United States, with no regional processing options. Additionally, Anthropic is rolling out its Enterprise Frontier Safeguards, allowing eligible customers to store data within their own infrastructure or on Harvey’s systems under a time-limited exemption. This feature is expected to address concerns around data retention and compliance, particularly for enterprise clients.

Because of these data considerations, Fable 5.1 is available as an opt-in feature rather than being enabled by default. This ensures organizations can evaluate the model’s fit with their compliance requirements and operational needs before adoption.

Competitive Landscape

The launch of Fable 5.1 comes at a time when AI models are rapidly evolving.
