VeChain’s Galactica phase has gone live on mainnet, introducing key upgrades to the VeChainThor blockchain, setting the stage for future developments.
VeChain has successfully launched the Galactica phase of its Renaissance roadmap on the mainnet, marking a significant milestone in its blockchain evolution. According to VeChain Official, this phase includes four major upgrades designed to enhance the VeChainThor blockchain’s functionality and security.
Key Upgrades Introduced
The mainnet integration introduces several pivotal enhancements, beginning with the Dynamic Fee Market (VIP-251), which remodels VTHO economics by incorporating a dynamic gas fee market. Inspired by Ethereum’s EIP-1559, this system automatically adjusts base fees based on network demand, aiming to prevent spam attacks and promote efficient transactions. This upgrade also introduces a deflationary aspect by burning 100% of base fees, thus reducing VTHO circulation with each transaction.
Further aligning with Ethereum’s developments, the Shanghai EVM Upgrade (VIP-242) synchronizes VeChainThor with Ethereum’s Shanghai release. This alignment introduces PUSH0 opcodes and optimized gas costs, facilitating a smoother transition for developers and tools migrating to VeChainThor while maintaining its unique multi-token model.
Another notable upgrade is the introduction of Typed Transactions (VIP-252), which provides a standardized transaction envelope format, enhancing the blockchain’s ability to process various transaction types without disrupting ongoing operations.
Lastly, the Extension Contract v2 > v3 (VIP-250) is a community-driven innovation that improves smart contract interaction efficiency, demonstrating VeChain’s commitment to empowering community contributions at the protocol level.
Future Roadmap and Developments
The Galactica phase is just the beginning of VeChain’s broader Renaissance initiative. Upcoming developments include the StarGate staking platform launch and the introduction of new Economic Node tiers, set to enhance staking and reward mechanisms.
Looking ahead, the Hayabusa phase scheduled for Q3 2025 will bring a complete transformation of tokenomics, focusing on stake-based VTHO generation and advanced governance upgrades. By Q4 2025, VeChain plans to implement a decentralized Validator network, transitioning from the current Authority MasterNode system.
The launch of Galactica marks a new chapter in VeChain’s evolution, promising significant enhancements and setting the foundation for future innovations.
