- It’s been Bitcoin’s biggest year yet, hitting new record prices and seeing surging adoption from retail and institutional traders alike.
- It’s, therefore, a great time to take a step back and celebrate the year that was as we look forward to an even bigger 2022.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Belated Kwanzaa, Cheerful Festivus! Whatever you’re celebrating this December, we want to wish you happy holidays from Crypto News Flash.
2021 has been a year of ups and downs. COVID-19 has continued to wreak havoc globally, but unlike in 2020, vaccines have come in handy to protect us from the deadly virus. Despite the uncertainty, it’s been a great year for cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.
Bitcoin has had the run of a lifetime. It started the year at $29,000 and in the four months that followed, it shot all the way to $64,000. After a correction that saw it drop below $30,000 in July, it then shot up again to set a new record at $68,680. The price pump this year also saw BTC hit and break $1 trillion in market capitalization for the first time ever, twice the size of America’s largest bank JPMorgan.
And it’s not just Bitcoin that has soared. Almost every other cryptocurrency hit new highs this year, with the likes of Ethereum, Solana and Polkadot hitting their records in November.
2021 saw new cryptocurrencies challenge the mainstays with dizzying gains. Shiba Inu gained over 50 million percent (yes, 50 million) to shoot into the top 10 despite being just a meme coin. Others like Solana and Avalanche have become some of the biggest DeFi players this year and their prices have reflected their rise in popularity.
Speaking of DeFi, this has been the year in which it became one of the greatest pillars of the market. In January, the total value locked in DeFi was just $18.5 billion. Today, it’s over $257 billion and growing with each new day despite setbacks such as hacks and rug pulls.
All in all, 2021 has been a great year for Bitcoin and throughout the year, we at Crypto News Flash have endeavored to keep you updated on the latest in the world of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. We fully appreciate the support and wish you all happy holidays.
Merry Christmas!
And PS – remember there’s no better Christmas gift for your loved ones than Bitcoin.
