A few weeks ago, it was announced that iconic football legend Pele will drop a non-fungible token (NFT) collection. There’s now confirmation that the NFT will drop on the Ethernity Chain today, May 08. The collection has come out of a collaboration between Visual Lab and Rafa Zabala. The NFTs will help immortalize the 80-year-old striker who is regarded by most fans as the greatest football player. The collection features several NFTs of the soccer star.

During his international career, the forward player became the only player to win three FIFA World Cups: 1958, 1962 and 1970. He is also the all-time top goal scorer for Brazil with 77 goals in 92 games. According to stats, the serial goalscorer was averaging nearly a goal every game throughout his football career. On top of his adept striking skills, the footballer was also renowned for his assists and dribbling skills.
In the collection includes a digital presentation. This is a video tracing the footballer’s career which began when he was only 15 years old. The presentation, dubbed “THE KING OF FOOTBALL,” shows his journey starting in the streets of Brazil to brilliant performances in packed stadiums in his heydays up until his retirement in 1977.
Additionally, Ethernity will release a multi-pack trading cards that make a nod to the player’s Panini trading cards of the past. This will include “Gilded Bicycle Pelé,” which showcases Pele’s signature bicycle kick. Still repeated and celebrated to this day, Pele popularized it throughout the ’60s and ’70s.

Pele NFT proceeds go to charity
Of the funds collected, 90 percent will go to the Pele Foundation. This is a charitable organisation that supports charities that empower children. This has become a trade mark move from celebrities with Ethernity’s recent Muhammad Ali aNFT auction also donating a big part of the sale proceeds to the Muhammad Ali Foundation. In that instance, Muhammad Ali aNFT raised $550,000.
NFTs continue to attract, top influential persons. On top of bringing in value for creators and buyers, it is now leading to greater cause. With donations now going to charities, the industry is now able to impact less fortunate communities around the world.
Ethernity input in the space has been notable as the go-to platform for celebrities, public figures and renowned artists. The platforms explores applications for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) within the context of art and philanthropy.
