Local media reported that the state intelligence agency is on the hunt for professionals in the field of financial technology. The reason is purportedly so that it can use cryptocurrencies for anonymous payments to agents or purchasing equipment.
The news was revealed by leading Israeli media outlet Ynet on August 8. According to a translation, this is the first time that the institution is openly looking for a person who specializes in cryptocurrencies.
Mossad to use BTC?
Mossad is responsible for intelligence collection, covert operations, and counter-terrorism in Israel so a move into crypto stands to reason.
According to the job description, the organization is looking for a technological leader in the field of fintech and digital currencies. The position includes leading, initiating, planning, and accompanying systems development activities, and 3 years of experience in the world of fintech is required.
Other positions sought by the agency include a business consultant for what is defined as a “challenging and dynamic role.” These were not the only positions posted according to Ynet. Mossad also wants someone who can develop unique mechanical means for a job that includes “planning, developing, manufacturing, implementing, writing product portfolios, training, managing product methodology, and performing mechanical integration for complex assemblies.”
It all sounds very James Bond as they also want a cyber-researcher who is an expert in the field of cameras.
The use of cryptocurrencies for anonymous payments is exactly what most countries, predominantly the U.S., have been trying to stifle.
Bitcoin, which touched $45K again this weekend, would not be the best option for this unless mixing services are also used. Monero (XMR) would be a better fit since it has these features built into the blockchain. Naturally, the intelligence agency did not specify any of this, or even what the reported interest or possible use of cryptocurrencies would be for.
Hamas Targeted in Crypto Raid
On July 10, CryptoPotato reported that Israel’s National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing had ordered the confiscation of 84 crypto addresses considered to be linked with the terrorist organization Hamas.
Analysis revealed that the Islamic terrorist group used numerous cryptocurrencies including Tether, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, and others, with wallets in receipt of more than $7.7 million in crypto assets.
