- WorldCoin sees a massive spike in verification ID, along with an increase in weekly wallet users.
- Regulatory bodies from France, Kenya, and Germany remain concerned about the project’s transparency.
WorldCoin has gained a lot of traction since its launch. With the token gaining popularity within the cryptocurrency community, WorldCoin has recorded a massive upsurge in the number of Identity verifications.
WorldCoin made the new development known in a recent blog post, in which it noted that ID verifications have surged by more than 100% since the launch of the protocol. It is worth noting that these verifications are being recorded on a global scale.
The newly attained milestone comes seven days after the launch of WorldCoin, and the rollout of additional Orbs across the globe.
“What’s noteworthy here is that the rate of World ID verifications had already doubled once in 2023. Between January and July, World ID sign-ups went from one million to two million in less than half the time it took to reach the first million. Last week’s 2X growth in weekly World ID sign-ups demonstrates a sustained increase in global demand for World ID as a standalone product.” The blog post read.
These statistics go on the high lot the increase in demand for WorldCoin, despite the controversial opinion that it has elicited amongst market players in the cryptocurrency space and the broader financial market.
The WorldCoin community also seems to be growing at an unprecedented rate, especially as the WorldCoin Foundation positions itself behind the community. The protocol has also referred to the demand for the World ID, as a signifier that there is a large market for a privacy-preserving identity protocol.
Regulatory bodies push back on WorldCoin
Asides from the increase in World ID holders, the official WorldCoin wallet also recorded a spike in global activities, after the protocol’s launch. Not only was there a 3X surge in weekly app users, but there was also a significant increase in weekly account creations.
As the blog post read;
“Beyond the increase in verified World ID holders, Tools for Humanity’s World App, the first wallet built for the Worldcoin network, also saw a surge of global activity following the network’s launch. There was a 3X increase in weekly active World App users and a more than 10X increase in weekly account creations in the seven days following launch.”
Despite the recently attained milestones and achievements, the protocol has seen a lot of regulatory pushback. In the previous week, Kenya’s Ministry of the Interior affirmed that the nation halted all WorldCoin-related activities until risks are spotted and inspected. Regulators in France, UK, and Germany are also looking into the project’s process of receiving biometric data.
Conclusively, the foundation is urging community members to familiarize themselves with the recent updates and information on the project. These updates, published on the official WorldCoin website, detail the progress levels of the project and its plans for the future.
