Luxury auction house Christie’s has announced its first NFT art sale, which will take place on the 17th of September in Asia. The NFT art sale will feature several NFTs such as Meebits, Bored Apes, and Cryptopunks.
Christie’s Experience With NFTs
Founded by James Christie in 1766, Christie’s has been in the field of auctioning artwork, luxury goods, jewelry, and clothing for well over a century. Last year, the auction house made its foray into the cryptocurrency and blockchain technology space when it sold its first-ever NFT at auction, Robert Alice’s Block 21 from Portraits of a Mind, for $131,250.
Christie’s also held an NFT auction in May, where the auction house sold 9 Cryptopunks for $16 Million. The Beeple NFT sale, which closed at a mind-boggling $69 Million, was also thanks to a significant role played by the auction house. The Beeple NFT remains the most NFT to date. Another NFT artist, “Fewocious,” raked in $2 Million during another auction held by Christie’s.
Bored Apes, Cryptopunks, And Meebits On Auction
Christie’s latest NFT art auction will feature NFTs such as Bored Apes, Cryptopunks, and Meebits up for auction. The NFT auction is set to begin on the 17th of September at 2 PM HKT and will conclude on the 28th of September at 2:PM HKT. According to Christie’s, The NFT collection is “exceptionally rare,” with the auction house announcing that it will release more information about the NFT sale on Monday. The auction house further stated,
“Christie’s presents No Time Like Present, featuring the very first NFT sale in Asia offered by an international auction house. The Christie’s website notes. Key highlights of the sale will include a group of exceptionally rare Cryptopunks created by Larva Labs, as well as Yuga Labs’ Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Larva Labs’ latest creation, Meebits. This auction also marks the first time BAYC and Meebits will be offered outside of any NFT-trading platform. This sale is poised to set another milestone in the history of Crypto Art.”
Other Auction Houses In The NFT And Blockchain Space
Apart from Christie’s, there are other fine auction houses that are also exploring the NFT and blockchain space. Banksy’s “Laugh Now Panel” prints were auctioned by the Phillips Auction House, while Sotheby’s is collaborating with artists such as Jay-Z and is also collaborating with the inventor of the internet, Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee.
Leading NFT Markets See Significant Rise In Monthly Value Transferred
The seven leading NFT markets have all reported a significant increase in the quantity of monthly USD value transferred, with the figure reaching a total of $356 Million in the first week of August. For NFT project sales, Cryptopunks is the leading NFT project, while Opensea had the highest share of the total value transferred, with 97.19% of the total monthly value settled.
Cryptopunks has seen 1018 sales valued at $166 Million over the past week, with the premier NFT project followed closely by Art Blocks ($61 Million), Meebits ($27 Million), and Superare ($6.8 Million).
