- Charles Hoskinson has emerged as the top crypto influencer for 2022 beating Binance’s CZ by a whisker.
- After FTX’s collapse, the reputation of Binance’s CZ has also come under question with US lawmakers mulling money laundering charges against him.
This year of 2022 has seen major turns in the crypto space with the credibility of some of the crypto leaders going for a toss. However, in a recent tweet, Binance chief Changpeng Zhao and Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson have been named as the most influential crypto leaders.
Whalechart.org conducted a recent poll for the most influential persons in crypto for 2022. The poll involved four options – Vitalik Buterin, Charles Hoskinson, Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, and Sam Bankman-Fried. A total of 36,000 people voted of which Cardano’s Charles Hoskinson secured the most votes at 36.5 percent.
However, it was a close call as Binance’s Changpeng Zhao came second by a whisker securing 34 percent vote in total. Interestingly, the disgraced FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was ahead of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin by seven percentage points.

The Binance CEO also congratulated Charles Hoskinson for emerging as the most influential crypto personality. In response, Hoskinson called it a tough vote adding that it was a tie between him and CZ. “It was a tough one. I think we’ll call it a draw,” he wrote.
The results of this poll, however, are in stark contrast to CoinDesk’s 100 most influential ranking which happened in October 2022. Of the above four crypto personalities, only Vitalik Buterin makes it to the list from which CZ, Hoskinson, and SBF have been excluded. Back then CZ said that he wasn’t surprised.
On the other hand, the Cardano founder stated that CoinDesk has never considered him in its 7-year-long history. He also slammed the publication for its negative, non-existent, and misleading coverage of Cardano.
Binance’s CZ has Come Under Fire
As said in the beginning, the reputation of some of the top crypto personalities has gone for a toss for some major events. It all started with the implosion of the Terra ecosystem in May 2022 which eroded more than $40 billion of investors’ wealth. Terra founder Do Kwon saw his reputation tanking and has come under regulatory and law enforcement radar.
In the following month in June, the contagion of Terra’s collapse spread to the largest crypto hedge fund Three Arrows Capital (3AC). Su Zhu, the founder of 3AC, who was once instrumental in the crypto space faced major heat.
Recently, the collapse of the crypto exchange FTX has put all light on Sam Bankman-Fried. The 30-year-old FTX founder was one of the most-celebrated figures in the crypto space. However, SBF is now facing criminal charges and is currently out on bail.
After the collapse of FTX, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao has also come under the scrutiny of the crypto community. The U.S. lawmakers are also mulling the possibility of filing money laundering and fraud charges on CZ.
