Filecoin, a decentralized storage system, has highlighted the significant growth in its network and the vital role its community plays in the development of public goods. The network has seen exponential growth since its mainnet launch in October 2020, becoming the world’s largest decentralized storage network.
The Filecoin Network and Community have Grown Massively since 2020
Filecoin is a global community, boasting a diverse ecosystem of storage providers, developers, data clients, token holders, and ecosystem partners. The network is home to around 3,000 storage providers who store humanity’s most valuable information. Over 1,800 data clients, from organizations such as CERN to Solana to the Internet Archive, store their data on the Filecoin network. The network has millions of unique stakeholders, with thousands leasing their tokens to enable more decentralized storage services.
An array of successful, independent ecosystem teams and projects worldwide are building on or with the Filecoin ecosystem, further enhancing its utility. Filecoin Foundation (FF) helps steward grant programs, the Filecoin Improvement Proposal Process, and the Orbit Community Ambassador program.
Highlighting 10 Public Goods Teams Dedicated to Maintaining & Growing Filecoin
A number of flourishing teams within the Filecoin community work to improve and maintain the Filecoin protocol, ecosystem, network infrastructure, and open source projects. These teams include FilOz, Curio Storage, FilPonto, Elliptic Research, Ansa Research, CryptoEconLab, NFT.Storage, Chainsafe DevOps, Filecoin Incentive Design Labs (FIDL), and Starboard Networks.
These teams, each with a unique focus, are composed of seasoned Filecoin engineers, operators, researchers, and builders with intimate knowledge of the protocol. They work on a range of initiatives including protocol improvement and security, supporting ecosystem partners, and developing and running network infrastructure services.
Scaling and Supporting more Filecoin Public Goods Initiatives
Filecoin recently launched the FIL-RetroPGF-1 funding round to support and fund the growth of public goods in the Filecoin ecosystem. Over 100 teams were nominated by the community to apply for retroactive funding to reward their impactful contributions. The community is also invited to participate in Filecoin public goods through network governance, sponsoring research projects, joining an ecosystem team, or hosting an event at an upcoming FIL Dev Summit.
Filecoin thanks its community supporters for their dedication to the collective good of the Filecoin ecosystem. Their efforts are critical in driving Filecoin’s growth and innovation forward.
