Switzerland-based financial technology firm Temenos has launched its latest product, the Temenos Payments Hub, hosted on IBM Cloud for Financial Services. This innovative solution caters to banking partners, offering them a streamlined path to accelerate their digitalization journey.
The primary focus of the Payments Hub is to facilitate seamless integration with established payment systems like SEPA in Europe and FedNow Instant Payments in the United States. Furthermore, it empowers banks to stay up-to-date with the latest security and compliance standards, strengthening their capabilities in digital payments.
Empowering Banks in the Digital Era
Temenos, known for its expansive open network serving a staggering 1.2 billion individuals globally, continues demonstrating its commitment to delivering transformative solutions. Temenos strategically crafted the Payments Hub to reduce operational costs for banks and spare them the resources and effort required to develop similar capabilities in-house.
Additionally, this solution equips financial institutions with the necessary tools to enhance user experiences. Also, it harnesses the latest advancements in digital payment technology. The Temenos Payments Hub plays a pivotal role in the digital transformation of banks by offering:
Effortless integration: The platform simplifies the integration process, allowing banks to seamlessly connect with existing payment systems such as SEPA and FedNow. This simplifies the transition to digital payment services, making it more accessible for financial institutions.
Advanced security and compliance: The Payments Hub empowers banks to implement cutting-edge security measures and compliance standards for digital payments. This ensures the reliability and trustworthiness of their financial services.
Simultaneously with the Temenos Payments Hub launch, the company has showcased its capabilities in dealing with central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). The focus here is primarily on using retail CBDCs, including exploring functionalities such as offline payments.
Ross Mallace, EVP global head of SaaS and partner ecosystem at Temenos, expressed his enthusiasm for the potential of the Temenos Payments Hub. He noted that recent successes in SEPA Instant processing in Europe, certification for the FedNow program in the US, and a significant win with a global payments leader have opened up substantial growth opportunities in the payments sector.
Additionally, Prakash Pattni, managing director of financial services digital transformation at IBM Cloud, emphasized the enduring collaboration between IBM and Temenos. He highlighted the goal of deploying next-generation banking technology, improving customer experiences, and reducing costs for financial institutions worldwide.
Temenos’ Connection with Ripple
Temenos has a longstanding association with Ripple, dating back to 2015 when the company conducted a comprehensive evaluation of Ripple’s solution. Temos hailed it as a “fundamental shift in how value can be transported.” In May 2016, Deloitte, one of the world’s leading accounting firms, unveiled the integration of Ripple’s technology into Temenos 24, a core banking technology solution.
Deloitte emphasized that Ripple’s solution had the potential to “revolutionize the way international payments are managed and processed.”
The primary objective behind this collaboration was to enable Temenos customers and partners, mainly financial institutions, to access fast, real-time payment solutions at a considerably lower cost when compared to traditional legacy payment systems.
