The most popular and prestigious collection NFT Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) reported that their official server in the internet messenger Discord was hacked. An unknown scammer compromised their webhook and used a malicious tool to mint fake non-fungible tokens (NFT) from the popular collection.

Fraud details
An unknown hacker managed to publish a phishing link on behalf of Mutant Ape Kennel Club about giving out exclusive rewards for the release of NFT mutant dogs. A Discord user went to the site and had his Mutant Ape Yacht Club token #8662 stolen, worth over 21 ETH ($68,900) on OpenSea. Data also showed that the token in question was sold on the platform in the past few hours.
Security researchers said a ticketing tool that checks users and sends out notifications across the channel has been compromised. Researchers said that clicking on malicious links encouraging users to create limited-issue NFTs would lead to an illegal script that could steal a user’s NFT and other wallet information. The Discord BAYC server is currently closed to new users.
Fraud attack continues
At the moment, several other NFT-oriented discord servers, in particular Doodles, Shamanzs, and Nyoki, have reported that similar phishing messages have been seen in their group. The project’s employees haven’t confirmed this information yet, but considering the situation with BAYC, the owners of Doodles should be careful and not open the links published in the messenger, so as not to lose their coins.
Also according to the latest information, Taiwanese pop singer Jay Chou lost NFT worth $550,000 in a phishing scam. The scammer managed to steal NFTs from the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection as well as the Mutant Ape Yacht Club and two NFTs from the Doodles.
