ElevenLabs and Universal Music Group Partner on AI Music Platform

ElevenLabs, the AI audio company valued at $11 billion, has entered a multi-year strategic partnership with Universal Music Group (UMG) to launch an AI-powered music creation platform. The collaboration marks ElevenLabs’ first agreement with a major label and aims to enable fans to remix, reinterpret, and personalize tracks from participating UMG artists.

According to the announcement, the platform will feature licensed music and active artist participation, reflecting a shared commitment to ensuring AI innovation respects human artistry while creating new revenue opportunities for artists and songwriters. The platform will allow fans to produce remixes, mashups, and custom vocal experiences, expanding the way listeners engage with music.

“The most exciting possibilities for AI and music are those that put artists, songwriters, and fans at the center,” said Sir Lucian Grainge, Chairman and CEO of UMG. He emphasized that the partnership aligns with UMG’s focus on responsible AI use that deepens fan engagement and unlocks new creative and commercial possibilities. Mati Staniszewski, ElevenLabs’ co-founder and CEO, echoed this sentiment, highlighting that their AI models paired with UMG’s rights management expertise will ensure artists are fairly compensated.

The new platform builds on ElevenLabs’ rapid ascent in the AI space. Founded in 2022, the company initially gained recognition for its ultra-realistic generative voice technology, later expanding into enterprise use cases including gaming, accessibility, and media production. Recent funding milestones underscore its growth: a $500 million funding round in February 2026 valued the company at $11 billion, up from $6.6 billion the year prior during a $100 million employee tender offer.

While specific financial terms of the UMG deal were not disclosed, the partnership could significantly bolster ElevenLabs’ standing in the music industry, where AI adoption is accelerating. The company’s existing offerings, such as its Music API and ElevenMusic creation app, cater to developers, content creators, and businesses looking to integrate AI-generated music into their workflows. This new initiative, however, represents a distinct product aimed directly at fans, signaling an expansion of its market focus.

For Universal Music Group, the deal continues its broader strategy of embracing innovative technologies to enhance artist-fan interactions. As the world’s largest music label, UMG’s participation provides a strong signal of legitimacy to AI-driven music tools, an area that has faced skepticism over ethical concerns and potential copyright issues.

Details on the platform’s launch timeline have not yet been released, but its development is reportedly underway. If successful, the project could set a new standard for how fans, artists, and AI intersect in the music ecosystem.
