All news is rigorously fact-checked and reviewed by leading blockchain experts and seasoned industry insiders.
  • AETH will stop trading on October 2, with liquidation scheduled for October 13.
  • The closure follows Bitwise’s earlier removal of Trendwise and option-income ETFs in 2026.
  • Bitwise continues to expand elsewhere, including single-asset crypto funds, staking products and onchain.

Bitwise Asset Management is closing another strategy-based crypto ETF, continuing a year of product consolidation as the firm reshapes a lineup that has expanded into spot crypto exposure, staking and onchain investment products.

The Bitwise Trendwise Ethereum and Treasuries Rotation Strategy ETF (AETH) will stop trading on October 2 and be liquidated on October 13. Investors who continue holding shares after trading ends will receive cash based on the fund’s net asset value, according to Bitwise.
strategies.

AETH Heads for October Liquidation

AETH is not a conventional Ethereum fund. Rather than maintaining straightforward ETH exposure, the strategy uses market signals to rotate between Ethereum futures and U.S. Treasuries.

Bitwise will stop accepting creation-unit purchase orders and end exchange trading on October 2. The fund’s final net asset value is expected to be calculated on October 9, followed by liquidation on October 13. Remaining shareholders will receive the proceeds through their broker or financial intermediary.

The asset manager did not provide a specific commercial reason for closing AETH.

That makes the fund’s structure and Bitwise’s other 2026 product decisions useful context, but it would be premature to attribute the closure to weak demand without supporting flow or asset data.

Bitwise Has Been Pruning Its ETF Shelf

AETH is the latest in a series of funds removed this year.

In May, Bitwise liquidated the Trendwise BTC/ETH and Treasuries Rotation Strategy ETF (BTOP) and the Bitwise Web3 ETF (BWEB). BTOP belonged to the same Trendwise family as AETH, using tactical allocation rather than maintaining constant exposure to a crypto asset.

Six option-income ETFs followed in August. Those products used options linked to Ethereum or crypto-related equities to pursue income-oriented strategies.

The sequence leaves fewer of the firm’s packaged tactical strategies on the market. More importantly, it comes while Bitwise is still launching products elsewhere, making the closures different from a broad contraction of its crypto business.

New Products Are Moving in Other Directions

Bitwise’s current lineup spans dedicated products for assets including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Chainlink, Avalanche, Dogecoin and Hyperliquid, alongside crypto-equity and other investment strategies.

One example of the shift came with the Bitwise Solana Staking ETF (BSOL), launched in October 2025. The fund combines direct SOL exposure with staking rather than using futures to approximate the asset’s performance.

More recently, Bitwise has pushed beyond the ETF wrapper.

On September 2, the company launched PAPY, an onchain vault on Morpho that accepts AUSD deposits and lends against a diversified pool of tokenized real-world assets. Bitwise said the strategy initially targeted a variable annual yield of 5% to 6%.

Those products represent different investment strategies, so AETH’s closure should not be read as evidence that every Bitwise product is moving toward a single format. What it does show is a willingness to remove older structures while allocating resources to newer areas of the crypto investment market.

Bitwise’s Own Portfolios Show What Remains Important

Another clue comes from how Bitwise constructs portfolios using its own products.

As of September 7, its Crypto Asset Portfolio included BITB, ETHW, XRP, BSOL and CLNK, giving the model exposure to individual crypto assets rather than the Trendwise rotation structure used by AETH. Its broader Total Crypto Market Portfolio also incorporated BITQ for crypto-equity exposure.

That is useful because it shows how Bitwise is positioning products as portfolio building blocks, rather than relying only on what it chooses to launch or liquidate.

The firm now says it manages more than $9 billion in client assets across roughly 70 investment products and works with more than 5,500 wealth teams, RIAs and family offices, as well as more than 20 banks and broker-dealers.

Against that scale, AETH is one product decision rather than a change in direction for the entire company.

The more useful question after the October liquidation will be which strategies continue attracting enough assets and investor demand to survive Bitwise’s expanding product shelf. Fund flows and assets under management across its remaining ETFs would provide a clearer answer than the closure of AETH alone.
