Kimi K2, an advanced open-source artificial intelligence model boasting 1 trillion parameters, has been launched on Together AI’s platform, marking a significant milestone in the AI sector. This model, developed by Moonshot AI, is designed to deliver superior performance across diverse AI applications, including autonomous reasoning, tool utilization, and creative writing, according to Together AI.

Kimi K2’s performance is notably robust, securing top positions in various benchmarks. It ranks first in empathy and expression on EQ-Bench3 and Creative Writing, outperforming both open-source and proprietary models. Additionally, it achieves 65.8% on SWE-bench Verified, demonstrating excellence in autonomous coding, and 76.5% on AceBench for tool mastery. The model’s production-ready code capability is evident with a 53.7% score on LiveCodeBench v6, which highlights its ability to execute real tasks with real code.
The model’s design is inherently agentic, featuring native tool use and autonomous workflows. This allows for complex tasks such as data analysis and report generation without manual intervention. Kimi K2’s development involved Large-Scale Agentic Data Synthesis, a novel training method that simulates interactions across numerous domains and tools. Architecturally, it features 1 trillion total parameters with 32 billion active per token, a Mixture-of-Experts design selecting 8 experts from 384, and training on 15.5 trillion tokens using the MuonClip optimizer.
