VeChain partners with 4ocean to leverage blockchain technology in combating ocean plastic pollution, aiming to remove 300,000 pounds of debris in 2025.
VeChain, a leader in blockchain-powered enterprise solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with 4ocean, a global ocean cleanup company, to address the escalating issue of plastic pollution in the oceans. This collaboration aims to leverage blockchain technology to enhance transparency and incentivize cleanup efforts, according to VeChain Official.
Initiatives to Combat Plastic Pollution
The partnership kicked off with a high-profile beach cleanup event in Miami, supported by the UFC Foundation. This event served as a platform to demonstrate the capabilities of the Cleanify decentralized application (dApp), powered by VeChain’s VeBetter ecosystem. The initiative aims to remove the equivalent of 14.4 million single-use plastic water bottles from the environment in its first year.
Throughout 2025, the partnership plans to remove 300,000 pounds of plastic and trash from oceans, rivers, and coastlines. Additionally, an 11-month sustainability sweepstake program will offer various prizes, and exclusive merchandise will be developed to further support cleanup efforts.
Blockchain’s Role in Sustainability
Blockchain technology will play a critical role in this initiative by providing immutable records of cleanup activities, known as ‘Sustainability Proofs.’ These records will track and verify the collection of plastic and other debris, ensuring transparency and preventing greenwashing. Participants will be incentivized with $B3TR tokens, rewarding their contributions to the cause.
Sunny Lu, CEO and Founder of VeChain, highlighted the synergy between the two organizations, stating, “By combining 4ocean’s inspiring track record in ocean conservation with VeChain’s blockchain capabilities, we’re creating new ways for people to get involved in and verify the impact of some of the world’s most significant environmental cleanup efforts.”
Expanding the VeBetter Ecosystem
The partnership with 4ocean aligns with the mission of the VeBetter ecosystem, which seeks to empower individuals to drive change through sustainable activities. The ecosystem utilizes a novel “X-2-Earn” model, where ‘X’ represents various sustainable actions.
